Previously, a computer rendering of a Maverick tailgate was leaked, but that wasn't particularly conclusive. Now, however, an anonymous source leaked to Motor1 an identical design, but an actual metal construction. Motor1 also noted that this truck could be based on the Bronco Sport. Motortrend also noted that the font matches that of other Ford trucks currently in production. It is also a clearly small piece, which the Blue Oval badging taking up far more space than on the tailgates of larger trucks. It's pretty clearly a tailgate for a compact truck, and confirms Ford is looking at building one. However, Motortrend has previously reported that Ford will build a compact pickup based on the universal platform that the Focus sits on, and may only share a drivetrain with the Bronco Sport. That would be similar to the car-fashioned Courier of other international markets.
Either way, it looks like a compact pickup is coming from Ford. It will also use some amount of Bronco components, whether that's the entire platform or just the drivetrain.

While this is unveiled as a concept, an insider, purportedly from Jeep, said that the vehicle will go into production. He said that 30 examples have been built since the plants reopened, which would be unusual for a one-off concept. Plus, he said, they were built on the production line, an unusual practice for Jeep concepts.
